Arrival at Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO): collect luggage and rental car to start self-drive trip.
Explore Bergen (“Gateway to Fjords”): UNESCO Bryggen Wharf wooden houses, alleys, galleries, cafés; Fish & Flower Market; Bergen Maritime Museum or KODE Art Museums; Fløibanen Funicular up Mount Fløyen for harbor/fjord views, photos, and scenic hiking trails.
Overnight in historic city of Bergen.
Breakfast at hotel. Drive scenic western roads: head to Voss (adventure capital) and stop at Tvindefossen waterfall. Drive Aurlandsfjord shores (part of Sognefjord system).
Stop in Flåm (fjord railway); ascend Stegastein viewpoint for panoramas. Spend evening in Sognefjord area (longest, deepest fjord); enjoy local inn dinner.
Drive: ~240 km / 150 mi (~5–5.5 hrs). Overnight: Sognefjord area.
Breakfast at hotel. Follow Lustrafjorden along Sognefjellet Tourist Route (highest Northern Europe mountain pass). Cross Jotunheimen National Park (tallest peaks, glaciers, rivers).
Stop in Lom (wooden stave church, architecture, cafés). Visit Dalsnibba Skywalk for Geirangerfjord & Blåbreen glacier views. Continue to Geiranger village.
Drive: ~230 km / 140 mi (~5–5.5 hrs). Overnight: Geiranger.
Breakfast at hotel. Explore Geirangerfjord (optional hiking, kayaking, RIB safari, chocolate factory, spa).
Board 65-min car ferry along UNESCO Geirangerfjord past Seven Sisters, Friaren (Suitor), and Bridal Veil waterfalls. Disembark at Hellesylt and drive road to Loen village, surrounded by fjords and mountains.
Drive: ~80 km / 50 mi (~2–2.5 hrs) + 1h 5m ferry. Overnight in tranquil Loen.
Breakfast at hotel. Ride Loen Skylift to 1,011 m (3,317 ft) for views of fjords, mountains, glaciers.
Drive Gaularfjellet Scenic Route (9 hairpin bends); stop at Utsikten viewpoint for valley, cliff, waterfall views. Continue to Balestrand village; option to visit Cider House for apple products, hike fjord trails, or relax by water.
Drive: ~190 km / 120 mi (~4.5–5 hrs). Overnight in Balestrand.
Breakfast at hotel. Take 35-min ferry to Vangsnes enjoying views. Drive past Vik; stop at Hove Church (oldest stone building in Sogn region) and explore village. Drive through Voss (mountains, rivers, valleys).
Arrive in Bergen for final evening; stroll Bryggen or enjoy traditional Norwegian dinner.
Drive: ~200 km / 120 mi (~4–4.5 hrs) + 35-min ferry time. Overnight: historic city of Bergen.
Breakfast at hotel. Last-minute souvenir/craft shopping in Bergen. Visit a museum (KODE Art Museums or Bergenhus Fortress). Enjoy a leisurely coffee at a café taking in final fjord views.
Drive back to Bergen Flesland Airport (~20 km / 12 mi, ~30–40 mins driving time), return rental car, and depart with memories of Norway’s fjords, mountains, waterfalls, and charming villages. End of tour.
