Arrive at Keflavík Airport and pick up your waiting self-drive car. Optional upgrade to visit Blue Lagoon if arriving early. After check-in, explore Laugavegur (Reykjavík’s main street) to enjoy its diverse shops and cozy cafes.
Overnight stay in Reykjavík.
Pick up rental car; drive south coast (~261 km / 162 mi). Visit Seljalandsfoss (walk behind water) and 60m Skógafoss. Optional: guided glacier hike, snowmobile, or ATV 4×4 tour at Sólheimajökull. Look for northern lights in evening (not guaranteed).
Overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.
Drive 249 km / 155 mi. Explore Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park (optional glacier hike requires licensed guide). See Fjallsárlón lagoon, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon (floating icebergs), and Diamond Beach (sparkling ice on black sand).
Overnight in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.
Drive 203 km / 126 mi along south coast: volcanic black sand beaches near Vík (caution: powerful rogue waves, strong undertows at Reynisfjara), 120m Dyrhólaey promontory, Reynisdrangar basalt columns, optional activity or Lava Center at Hvolsvöllur (entrance not included).
Overnight in Selfoss area.
Drive 188 km / 116 mi along Golden Circle to Reykjavík: visit Kerið explosion crater, Geysir geothermal area (bubbling mud pots, spouting geysers), Gullfoss waterfall, and UNESCO Þingvellir National Park.
Overnight in Reykjavik.
Optional visit to Blue Lagoon geothermal spa to unwind in warm mineral waters before heading to the airport (optional, not included). Return your self-drive car at the airport before departure.
