Arrival at Bergen Airport: collect luggage and pick up rental vehicle for self-drive trip.
Drive to Bergen city and check into hotel. If time allows, visit Fish Market, stroll UNESCO Bryggen Wharf, or ride Fløibanen Funicular up Mount Fløien for panoramic city and fjord views.
Drive: ~20 km / ~12 mi (~30 mins). Overnight in Bergen.
Breakfast at hotel. Free time in Bergen before driving south toward Balestrand through scenic valleys and landscapes to Sognefjord (“King of Fjords”).
Enjoy views where Aurlandsfjord connects with main fjord system before arriving in Balestrand village on the water’s edge.
Drive: ~200 km / ~124 mi (~4–5 hrs). Overnight in Balestrand.
Breakfast at hotel. Day at leisure in Balestrand.
Optional excursion (June–Sept): half-day trip to Fjærland with scenic fjord boat ride, visits to Boyabreen and Supphellebreen glaciers, and entry to Norwegian Glacier Museum.
Drive: ~130 km / ~80 mi round trip (~3–4 hrs). Overnight in Balestrand.
Breakfast at hotel. Drive into Sunnfjord region, known for dramatic fjords, tall mountains, and lush green valleys.
Afternoon free for hiking, kayaking, cultural experiences, or relaxing in peaceful fjord scenery.
Drive: ~150 km / ~93 mi (~3 hrs). Overnight in Sunnfjord.
Breakfast at hotel. Drive to Flåm for a scenic Nærøyfjord cruise ending in Gudvangen. Return to Flåm for car (option to take Flåmsbana train).
Drive south toward Hardangerfjord region.
Drive: Gudvangen → Flåm ~20 km (~25–30 mins); Total ~220 km / ~137 mi (~4.5–5 hrs). Overnight in Hardangerfjord area.
Breakfast at hotel. Explore Ulvik and Hardangerfjord region.
Optional activities: visit Vøringsfossen Waterfall near Eidfjord, explore Hardanger Folk Museum, or enjoy scenic hikes and walks along the fjord.
Drive: Flexible (~50–120 km / ~31–75 mi). Overnight in Hardangerfjord area.
Breakfast at hotel. Drive back to Bergen through scenic fjord landscapes and mountain valleys.
Upon arrival, remainder of day free for last-minute sightseeing, shopping, or relaxation.
Drive: ~140 km / ~87 mi (~3 hrs). Overnight in Bergen.
Breakfast at hotel. Enjoy last-minute shopping or sightseeing before driving to Bergen Airport (~20 km / ~12 mi, ~30 mins).
Return rental vehicle and depart.
